Burnt Orange Report Endorses Lon Burnam in HD-90

by: Burnt Orange Report

Fri Feb 14, 2014 at 03:00 PM CST

Lon Burnam is a tireless progressive champion, and the best choice to represent HD-90 in the Legislature. We unanimously and enthusiastically endorse a vote for him in the Democratic Primary.

Burnam is a canny and experienced legislator, who during the budget debate actually temporarily passed a bipartisan amendment to study how the Medicaid expansion could be implemented in Texas. He is also a leader on environmental issues, particularly when it comes to trying to curtail irresponsible drilling and fracking practices on the Barnet Shale.

Burnam is a known thorn in Rick Perry's side, and as of late has raised serious concerns over the Governor's efforts to institute politically motivated regulations of non-profit navigators that assist individuals in enrolling in health insurance. As Texas continues to address the ranks of uninsured residents, Burnam is a knowledgeable resource on this issue who remains committed to finding a way to provide all Texans with quality, affordable healthcare.

Additionally, Burnam's experience and unwavering progressive advocacy are a boon to his district, which will arguably receive better constituent services and more direct advocacy at the Capitol from the incumbent as opposed to his challenger.

We strongly encourage voters to return Burnam to the legislature for another term, and unanimously and enthusiastically endorse his re-election.

Early Voting: February 18-February 28, 2014 | Election Day: Tuesday March 4
