The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land, and it's not going anywhere, so now's the time to make sure that people who need access to quality, affordable care sign up for insurance.

That's why Burnt Orange Report is kicking off 12 Days of Enroll-Más, our effort to promote the December 23rd deadline to sign up for coverage that begins January 1.

Don't have health insurance yet? Then it's time to get covered. Head on over to healthcare.gov and set up an account, and start exploring your options. There are many quality, affordable options.

Already have insurance? The Affordable Care Act will benefit you as well, by making preventative care free, providing free birth control, expanding access to mental health benefits, removing lifetime caps on coverage, and preventing denials of coverage for pre-existing conditions. Oh, and your insurance company can't kick you off anymore just because you get sick. It's a great deal for everyone who wants to be healthy.

Texas has the highest rate of uninsured Americans, at 28.8% of our population, so our state stands to benefit the most from President Obama's health insurance reform law.

It's critical that we help spread the word. Over the next 12 days, in addition to our regular coverage of Texas politics, our staff will be writing about the benefits of the law, why it's important to have insurance coverage, and how folks can get involved in the effort to enroll others.

Read more below the jump.

The deadline to sign up for coverage that begins January 1 is December 23rd. All Americans must have coverage by March 31, 2014.

Help us spread the word. Ask your friends and family if they have insurance, and if they're satisfied with their coverage. If they don't or aren't, encourage them to head over to healthcare.gov and get started shopping for a plan.

Let's all do our part to make sure that as many Texans as possible have access to quality, affordable health care.
