Summermoon Coffee Bar is Totally Anti-Choice

NARAL Pro Choice Texas contacted Summermoon Coffee Bar, a local coffee shop in South Austin, asking if they would like to make a donation for the silent auction at the Celebration of Choice event coming up this November. What the staff of NARAL did not expect was to discover that this establishment is fervently anti-choice.

From NARAL's facebook page:

Did you know that Summermoon Coffee Bar is an anti-choice coffee shop in south Austin? When asked to make a donation to our silent auction, they sent us a disturbing video comparing abortion to the Holocaust claiming to be “pro-life.” We all might want to think twice before walking into this place.

I certainly will.

A look at the email sent by the owners and the video after the jump.Amanda Terry made Summermoon Coffee's stance on choice clear in her email back to NARAL:

To Whom It May Concern,

Please take us off your list of contacts. We are Pro Life and do not believe in the killing of precious innocent babies. I would recommend watching this video to put it in perspective.

The video is embedded below, but in case you want to save yourself half an hour, here is the basic argument: The Holocaust was really horrific. Most decent people agree that killing millions of people is a terrible thing to do. If you think the Holocaust was bad because you “value human life,” you should have the same opinion about abortion.

Long story short: if you're looking for a caffeine fix in the South Austin area and you aren't interested in supporting a business that is fervently anti-choice and actively involved in spreading offensive propaganda, find another coffee shop.

If you or someone you know owns or works at a coffee shop that is willing to donate to the Celebration of Choice, please contact the good people at NARAL Pro-Choice Texas and let them know.

    RE: That video

Ray Comfort basically goes around asking ignorant young people leading questions comparing women who have abortions to Nazis that killed Jews.  The conversations are edited and cut up in a way that's kind of confusing, too.

Aside from being a longform commercial urging people to vote for anti-choice candidates, it was just a commercial for him to sell more books.

I'd suggest going to Flightpath, Joe's, Houndstooth, Patika, or Anderson's Coffee Co.

  2. A feminist writer? Well, I suppose that figures. You are punishing someone for their belief simply because it is different from yours, which is close minded. This is what bigots do. They be “anti choice” but at least they aren’t anti opinion. For a people so “tolerant” and “open minded,” you can be really vicious when someone disagrees with you. I hope preventing the owners of this shop from making the money they need to live makes you feel good about yourselves 🙂

  3. Who's the tolerant one? on

Wow I had no idea. Thank you for spreading the word! I will definitely frequent their establishment even MORE from now on.

  4. I mean, that reply was solicited from them. It’s not like they have signs inside and a billboard outside promoting a pro-life viewpoint. People are allowed to have opinions.

    Disclaimer- I am pro-choice.
