Texans from across the state are at our State Capitol right now demonstrating their opposition to Senate Bill 5, which would drastically reduce abortion access in Texas. Here's what key bill opponents have said about the bill and the fight against it.
Planned Parenthood Action President Cecile Richards: “This bill would endanger the health and safety of millions of women in Texas. If this passes, abortion would be virtually banned in the state of Texas, and many women could be forced to resort to dangerous and unsafe measures.”
“Republicans are pouring kerosene on a fire that will burn across Texas and turn it blue!”
State Senator Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth): “The leadership may not want to listen to TX women, but they will have to listen to me. I intend to filibuster this bill.”
State Representative Senfronia Thompson (D-Houston): “Do you want to return back to the coat hanger or do you want to be able to give them the option to be able to terminate their pregnancy because they have been raped?”
State Representative Jessica Farrar (D-Houston): “Everything about the process related to these abortion regulation bills has smelled like partisan politics. Proponents of the bill have failed to demonstrate any evidence that the regulations imposed by these bills are necessary. Nor have they expressed any sign of responsible governance in ensuring that women will continue to be able to access safe and legal abortion care.”
