Bill ZedlerSenators from the University of Houston Student Government Association unanimously adopted, with two absentions, a resolution opposing the “Zedler Amendment” and expressing support of the campus' LGBT Resource Center and Women's Resource Center.

The Zedler Amendment to General Appropriations bill SB 1 (PDF), seeks to prohibit the state's colleges and university from housing “Gender and Sexuality Centers” on campus grounds or using state funds “…to support, promote, or encourage any behavior that would lead to high risk behavior for AIDS, HIV, Hepatitis B, or any sexually transmitted disease.”

The resolution was approved signed by the student body's president Cedric Bandoh late Wednesday. Equality Texas has arranged for two members of the University of Houston SGA to come to Austin today to hand deliver the SGA's resolution in opposition to the Zedler Amendment. They join the Resource Center Dallas in releasing an official statement of opposition, as previously reported by the Dallas Voice.
