State Representative Naomi Gonzalez was arrested for driving while intoxicated last night in downtown Austin after a crash that injured three people, including a woman on a bicycle. Gonzalez was apparently going 50 mph when her BMW slammed into a Fiat, which in turn caused the Fiat to hit a bicyclist. Thankfully no one was killed.

Gonzalez was transported to Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries, according to KVUE.

It's hard not to hear this story and immediately think of the incident last session when Gabrielle Nestande, a former staffer in Rep. Wayne Christian's office, struck and killed a pedestrian. The case all but wrapped up a few weeks ago when Nestande was sentenced to 10 years probation and a $10,000 file. The victim's mother is seeking civil damages.

In the meantime, Texas continues to have more drunk driving fatalities than any other state.
