The Obama campaign mocked some of Mitt 'My wife Ann drives a couple of Cadillacs' Romney's most out-of-touch moments this week in a video montage of Romney's own comments on the campaign trail. The video, posted by the Obama campaign's Truth Team on Wednesday, features the multi-millionaire venture capitalist expressing the Schumpeterian-desire to "Let Detroit go bankrupt," joking about being unemployed, advocating getting rid of firefighters and teachers, and telling struggling students that the best advice he can offer them is to "shop around," and borrow money from their parents.
Others agreed with the view of Romney as an out-of-touch aristocrat. "I don't think he ever lived our lifestyle," offered one. Said another: "I just don't think he understands the problems of the poor or the middle class." The idea of Romney changing the oil in his car or driving a trash truck got a chuckle.
Romney can't understand the struggles of middle-class Americans, because he has never lived a middle-class life. He's a moneyed-man and a full-time politician who has never had to make a student loan payment or choose between paying for a prescription and buying groceries.
