Rundown of Texas Republican Endorsements in GOP Presidential Race

0 Flares 0 Flares ×

It is no surprise with a divided Republican Party here in Texas and across the nation, that the nominations for a GOP contender vary from differing Texas leaders, but also display a clear lack of a consensus among Republican leaders as well.  Here is a brief rundown:

Mitt Romney:

Texas House Speaker Joe Straus

Rep. Mike Conaway (TX-11)

Rep. Kay Granger (TX-12)

Rep. Lamar Smith (TX-21)

Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22)

Rep. John Carter (TX-31)

Rep. Pete Sessions (TX-32)

Rep. Mac Thornberry (TX-13)

President George H.W. Bush
Rick Santorum:

State Comptroller Susan Combs

U.S. Senate Candidate Craig James

State Rep Paul Workman (TX HD 47)

State Rep Tan Parker (TX HD 63)
Newt Gingrich:

Governor Rick Perry

Rep. Joe Barton (TX-6)

Rep. Michael Burgess (TX-26
Ron Paul:

No Texas Republican leader has endorsed Ron Paul yet, but at least he has the support of Austin local business Planet K!

Here is a list of people who supported Rick Perry when he was running for President, but haven't made any new moves yet. Look for them to back Gingrich if he announces Perry as part of the ticket, if that ever happens.

Rick Perry:

  • Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst

  • Rep. Sam Johnson (TX-3)

  • Rep. Jeb Hensarling (TX-5)

  • Rep. John Culberson (TX-7)

  • Rep. Michael McCaul (TX-10)

  • Rep. Kenny Marchant (TX-24)

  • Rep. John Carter (TX-31)

  • Rep. Pete Sessions (TX-32)

  • State Rep Wayne Christian (TX HD 9)

Our Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn have officially not endorsed anyone. Cornyn has made it clear he does not want to endorse at all in the 2012 primary, while Hutchison comes awful close to endorsing Mitt Romney in a speech back in February.
