Tx-13: Waun'a Clean House?

by: Xpatriated Texan

Fri Jun 23, 2006 at 06:50 AM CDT

Way up in the Panhandle, Mac Thornberry is trying for yet another term in Congress.  Thornberry is notable because he is only the third Republican since Reconstruction to hold this seat - and he was able to win it based on the Contract with America.  Of course, one of the provisions of the CoA was term limits.  If we use the more generous of the two bills introduced to accomplish this, this should be Thornberry's last election - I aim to make sure that is not swept under the rug.

Join me under the fold to learn a bit more about this character - and his worthy opponent.

Another key component of the CoA was a Constitutional Amendment to require a balanced budget.  Yet Thornberry has voted for increasing the deficit every year since George W. Bush was elected - it seems like it he would have cast at least one protest vote somewhere along the way if he meant that "balanced budget" thing.

And in this corner...

Roger Waun.  Roger has an impressive list of qualifications:

Roger Waun is qualified for Congress by virtue of his education, military and community service, and his business management experience. He is a Wichita Falls businessman with more than 15 years’ experience in: business management, marketing, consulting, training, and development. For the past 10 years in Texas he has owned and operated a regional wholesale distributorship business. He has worked as a Manager and Administrator for both the American Production and Inventory Control Society and the National Association of Purchasing Management.

Roger has long been involved with electoral politics.  He managed campaigns for State Representative and State Senate candidates, has been a Precinct Committeman and Ward Chairman in the Republican Party in Pennsylvania; and later served as Party Secretary and State Democratic Convention Delegate in the Democratic Party in Arizona, where he organized the annual Arizona Jefferson-Jackson Day Gala\'s and was active in state-wide Democratic campaigns.. He is currently an active member of the Wichita County Democratic Association and the Texas Democratic Women.

A graduate of Army R.O.T.C., he served for 16 years in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Strategic Intelligence Officer. He held a Top Secret security clearance with active duty tours at NSA, the Defense Intelligence Agency and at Headquarters of the U.S. Army’s Recruiting Command.  He has remained active in veteran\'s organizations as a 33-year  member of the American Legion, and served as State Legislative Director for the AMVETS of Pennsylvania..
Roger is a member of \"The Band of Brothers 2006\", and the \"Fightin Dems\", both national organizations advocating on behalf of our Armed Services and veterans as Democrats seeking election to Congress..

Yesterday, I asked for a small donation to help Tx-19 candidate Robert Ricketts.  Today, I'm asking the same of you for Mr. Waun.  We need to support our quality candidates or no one else will.  Plus, this district is historically strongly Democratic - it can be again.
