Wednesday, Mayor Lee Leffingwell announced his bid for reelection and highlighted a campaign promise to,
"begin a dialogue with the community, with Austin Energy, with the LCRA, and with state officials, about how to make Austin coal-free - and aggressively plan a date to achieve that goal."
This is a real paradigm shift for this (or any) political leader and a great compliment to Austin's growing environmental community. As someone who's spent a good amount of time on this issue I want to say thank you to everyone -- from "Austin Has a Dirty Secret" to Austin City Hall for helping the mayor see the value here.
A huge step for Austin's environment, health, and economy.
