Rep. Dennis Bonnen

by: Elsbeth

Sun May 29, 2011 at 11:13 PM CDT

Rep. Dennis Bonnen just said that he and Rep. Eiland are "going out later," after saying that Rep. Eiland was one of the smarter lawyers in the Chamber or something like that. {{loud laughter}}

Why is Dennis Bonnen so popular? I don't get it.

Along with so many of his "elders," in the Texas legislature, this man is a disgrace.

Kirk Claunch, a Fort Worth lawyer representing landowners in property-damage suits against natural gas operators in Denton and Johnson counties, described the expanded bill as an attack on private property rights.

"I can't think of any piece of legislation that's more un-American than one that deprives a private property owner of the right to defend themselves against abuses from a big oil company or anybody else," Claunch said. "This is law that essentially says we are going to let the oil and gas industry do whatever it needs and to run over anybody that gets in its way without any consequence."

Claunch said the amendment wouldn't have stopped lawsuits he has pending in Denton and Johnson counties, but it would have affected other landowners who want to sue companies whose activities hurt land values. [emphasis added.]

Oh, great. Now he's filling in for the Speaker, again. Is this the best our state can do with leadership? Dennis Bonnen. Is this it??

The Texas Railroad Commission (0.00 / 0)
A name change was such a sensible idea. Oh, well. So, the Oil and Gas Industry will continue to be called the Texas Railroad Commission. It will, of course, continue to claim that it's truly regulating O&G. So many worked so hard to see some change. But kudos to Rep. Dennis Bonnen. When you go out tonight and have those drinks, be sure to toast yourself. And toast all of us (Republicans and Democrats) who hoped and prayed for change and just couldn't get it from politicians who really don't care.

So, if fracking (0.00 / 0)
is being performed 500 feet or less from your back door (as it is everyday in the big, wild Barnett Shale) and you and your significant other are one day exposed to a fairly large plume of something that makes you both dizzy as you frantically gasp for air (as has been known to happen in the fabulous Barnett Shale), Rep. Bonnen, would vigorously proclaim, "Sorry, you greedy, money-grubbing homeowners. No frivolous lawsuits for you!"  While the elder statesman, and much more diplomatic, Rep. Christian, would simply state, "Sorry, folks.  I guess chemical exposure is what you get for waiting until you are financially ready to have those babies. Want some Viagra"?
