Representative Pena: When You Dis Your Party, You Lose Your Friends!

by: Daniel Segura

Fri Dec 17, 2010 at 03:34 PM CST

Currently, as I am writing this note, Representative Pena still lists several Democrats on his "official" website as supporters of his (http://www.aaronpena.com/endorsements.htm).  After speaking with many of the listed supporters, I am quite sure that Mr. Pena has lost many of his friends with his move to deceive, insult, and betray the good people of his district who voted for him. Mr. Pena needs to take down this site.

You have indicated by your actions, Mr. Pena, that you have no respect for your constituency, and soon they will have an opportunity to reward you for this behavior, but show some respect to your colleagues and take down your website. This site is simply a continuation of your lies and is indicative of your leadership. I've had it reported to me that even those folks on this list serving federal prison sentences are embarrassed about what you've done!  Accept this as a lesson, that strong consideration of who your friends are should be done before making such foolish decisions.

Lastly, for the sake of your own honor. Resign now, before you make any more foolish decisions, and allow the voters of your district to make an honest decision about which individual and which Party they really want representing them. Mr. Pena you have mislead your voters, they don't know you and they deserve for you to do what is respectable.

Should Representative Aaron Pena resign and run as a Republican?
Absolutely!
Hmmm...
No, I'm a Republican and we don't want him either.

Plenty of time left to #CallOutAaron Pena on twitter & Facebook!

Phil Gramm resigned before he ran as a Republican. (3.00 / 2)

(Then after that Gramm became responsible for legislation that wrecked the economy and destroyed consumer confidence.  His wife was on the board of ENRON - and even after some ENRON funtionaries were either sentenced to time in prison or committed suicide, policies promoted by ENRON remain, costing us every day.)

Aaron Pena lists Terri Hodge as a supporter.  Where is she today?  (Another long story.)

Pena should not continue to list people as supporters without providing them proper notice of his personal change and obtaining their permission.

I agree with Chairman Richie.  If Pena had resigned to run as a Republican in that district, he would not win the election.  The district voted 76.9 % for Obama, and 22.3 % for McCain.  That's a higher per-centage for Obama than districts served by a lot of other talented, effective Democratic House members.  It's a higher per-centage than we had in Dallas County, which we re-built to reliably elect a Democratic majority in all the county-wide races.

The whole course of events is rather shocking.  I've served on party committees with Pena.  I remember him attending an SDEC meeting right after the unfortunate death of his child, and that it was his first event to attend after that terrible event.  Pena has also had roles at the last 3 Democratic National Conventions.

Will the Republicans even treat Pena seriously?  We will get to see.

Desperation... (3.00 / 1)
The embracing of Representative Pena by Texas Republicans shows just how desperate they are to monopolize the Texas Legislature and wreck the state. This is, I'm confident, the first signal of the fall of the Texas Republican Party.
