| The Congressional newspaper "Roll Call" has just caught Texas Congressman Michael McCaul, representing the Tenth District running from the Houston suburbs to the Austin suburbs, under reporting millions of dollars in 2008 and 2009 income and assets. Representative McCaul is the ranking Republican on the trial of Democratic Representative Charles Rangel, to be held later this month, on charges of not reporting income from a rental property. |

| All members of Congress and candidates for Congress are required to file annual financial disclosures of their assets, sale of assets, and income from assets. Mr. McCaul had received an extention from the normal filing date for 2009 earlier this year, but he has done so, now, and Roll Call has found that he under reported his assets and income by millions of dollars. He will now be ranked as the sixth richest member of the entire Congress, including the House of Representatives and the Senate. His reported net worth has increased sixfold since his first financial disclosure report after his election in 2004. Perhaps now we understand why he spent over two million dollars of his own money to win the 2004 Republican primary. Representative McCaul is reported by Roll Call to have blamed the omission on a "clerical error" by his accountant. |
