What Did the Green Party Know & When Did They Know It?

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Fri Jul 16, 2010 at 08:30 AM CDT

I believe this more or less answers that question. The Texas Green Party leadership not only knew about the Republican offer to pay for their ballot access, but were almost excited by the prospect of it.

Friendly advice to Texas Dems (0.00 / 0)
And I say this as someone who will be campaigning and voting for Bill White.

Never, ever mention the Green Party again. All attacks should be focused on GOV. RICK PERRY AND HIS RECORD OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS!!

Very, very few voters care about the Green Party. Most don't even know it exists. I am stunned that the TDP is putting so much effort into demonizing the Greens. What is the goal here? Which voters are you trying to reach? What is the point of this PR campaign?

It is not at all clear that anyone broke any laws. Even if the Greens or Republicans did break a law, it is the type of thing that only political insiders care about. These attacks make the Dems look petty and vindictive. It looks like the Dems are trying to bully the Greens off the ballot. None of this is good PR.

The Greens are on the ballot. They will take 1-2% of the vote. Accept it. Deal with it. Move on.

Greens take 1%-2%.,.. (0.00 / 0)

And that should be just about enough to ensure Rick gets the plurality...

I want to the thank the Greens for giving Texas 4 more years of Perry and Big Oil Polluters Control of the TCEQ...

Florida 2000...Texas 2010..

It's Deja Vu all all over again...

The Greens took that much because it was Ralph Nader against Bush and Gore.

What about the rest of the Greens? (0.00 / 0)
We keep hearing from kat swift on this matter.  The TX Green Party has two co-chairs.  What do they have to say about this matter?  I only remember hearing from their Treasurer who recommended that they not accept the signatures.  What about the members of their State Executive Committee?  What do they think about violating their own platform by accepting corporate donations to get on the ballot?  What about the local county chairs in counties where local green candidates are running?  Is this something they all support too?

Or is this kat swift and a few Greens going rogue from their own party in a desperate act to get on the ballot?

Her campaign website also appears to violate election law by not having the required political advertisement disclaimers.  This just shows that the Green Party and its candidates are not ready for prime time.

Bill White and the TDP agreed to push for Instant Run-Off Voting legislation in the next session if the Greens ended their quixotic mission for inclusion on 2010 Ballot?

In response to this previous comment, actually it looks like Democratic candidates have been losing on their own quite fine for...what...ten, twelve years. How many statewide offices do the Democrats hold here in Texas? Yep, I think that answers any questions.

Maybe they should be more like Republicans... (0.00 / 0)
Wait. Democrats are like Republicans.

http://brainsandeggs.blogspot....

"So when the Green Party -- as well as millions of disaffected non-voters across the country -- say, "Both parties do it", this is the kind of thing they're talking about."

Okay for Bill White to take "funnelled money" but not Rick Perry?  Such hypocrisy.

The hypocrisy explains why many Democrats don't vote for Democrats. Most just don't vote. Why bother?

Interesting that Chris Bell didn't announce the settlement since you would think he would want everyone to know Rick Perry trembled in his boots over the thought of having to face Mr Ethics himself in court and be held accountable for, well, doing what Bill White has also done.

Maybe since he filed the suit "out of principle" he was waiting for the proper moment to announce he was donating the settlement "out of principle" to the party he loves so much. And has finally done quite well off of. Suing the winner. Which doesn't make him any less the loser. If anything it probably makes him more of one.

stop it (0.00 / 0)
just, please stop lying.

1. Chris Bell probably didn't announce it since part of the settlement was to not announce it.  If you bothered to actually read any newspapers you'd know that.

2.  Bill White did not do the same thing as Rick Perry.  Again, if you bothered to pick up a newspaper or read an ethics report, you'd know that Rick Perry failed to disclose the source of the money from the Republican Governors Association in 2006.  In fact, THAT WAS THE ENTIRE ARGUMENT OF CHRIS BELL'S LAWSUIT!  Since every article noted that people like Mostyn, John Eddie and Umphrey gave something like $750,000 to the Democratic Governors, and Bill White received $1 million, IT'S THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT RICK PERRY DID.  You wouldn't know who gave the money if Bill White was like Rick Perry.

Whatever sordid personal demon it is that forces you into these delusions, I hope you get real professional help to deal with it.  Venting lies on random blogs does nothing to help.  At least it hasn't helped you for the last 4 years.

Please... (0.00 / 0)
Someone obviously didn't want anyone to know "money had changed hands."  Someone who sued someone for violating state law and then expected them to violate state law by not reporting it on the campaign finance reports?

Rick Perry is thoroughly enjoying the exposure of the hypocrisy knowing everyone else is realizing it although not everyone else is enjoying it.

And no doubt quite a few have made up the $426,000 used to settle a nuisance lawsuit. Although some might say it was used to settle a lawsuit filed by a nuisance.

No doubt Democratic politicians in Texas have found a new way to earn a living - by filing suit against the winners.

As for legal versus illegal funneling of funds in order to bypass state campaign finance laws, well, legal or illegal there is still the matter of bypassing state finance campaign laws. As in disclosing. As in hoping the majority of people don't look beyond "Governor's Association" and look to see who also donated to the "Governor's Association."  It is, well, unethical.

And that is where the hypocrisy lies. Okay for Democrats to do it, but not for Republicans.

Bill White disclosed it. But only on the reports. The media disclosed it. In the same story about the settlement. Either way, with both parties, it raises the question of why the "special interests" felt the need to funnel the money instead of just giving it directly to the candidate.

We have four more years of Rick Perry to look forward to. Thanks to the Democrats and their "ethics."

Actually Bill White didn't disclose it... (0.00 / 0)
Someone equally delusional emailed me and pointed out that Bill White didn't disclose it. The media did. After the Houston Chronicle investigated and discovered it. So Bill White and Rick Perry really are not too different in this case. Both just hoped no one would discover it.

Some believe ethics is important. Even in politics. Some don't. Particularly in politics.

Link:

Whereas the Bell lawsuit alleged that Perry did not properly report contributions from the governors' group in 2006, White spokeswoman Katy Bacon said White's campaign made the required disclosures when his out-of-state money came in. The ethics commission confirmed that the proper reports were filed.

I prefer newspapers and original sources to emails from equally delusional people.

Reported the total... (0.00 / 0)
Bill White reported the total.  Rick Perry maintains he did as well as of the date the reports were to be filed as I understand it. No doubt planned so that some wouldn't have to be. They don't call him Slick Rick for nothing.

The point is, which you miss, neither disclosed that there were large contributions made to the respective governors associations by supporters which were then "funnelled" back to them. That's where the ethics question comes into play.

Apparently Perry Dorrell and quite a few others are delusional as well according to you. Or maybe they just believe ethics applies to all. Just like the law.

You keep changing your point.  But to address your latest piece of fiction, here goes.  Quoth Baby Snooks:

The point is, which you miss, neither disclosed that there were large contributions made to the respective governors associations by supporters which were then "funnelled" back to them. That's where the ethics question comes into play.

Now you and I seem to have a different definition of what "disclose" means.  To me, it means filing the disclosing information with your ethics report in accordance with the law.  Rick Perry did not do so.  Bill White did.

Now for you, it seems that "disclosure" means literally sending a detailed list to your specfic doorstep, since you are unable to do anything on your own except fabricate myths.  So on behalf of Bill White's campaign, here goes:

Dear Baby Snooks,

Here you will find the link to the Ethics Commission website.  Here you will find the filing information for William H. White, candidate for Governor.  Here you will find his ethics report, and here you will find a 154 page attachment with donor information on every out of state PAC that donated to the the White campaign.  We apologize for not hand delivering the information to you, believing you would take the effort to simply look it up instead of disseminating lies across the internet.

Thank you.
