My Fellow Democrats:

As I write this message to you tonight it has become apparent that the race for Texas Democratic Party Chair has become a race for the most endorsements. Who gets who seems to have become the logic of today’s politics. I believe the true race for Party Chair is in the hearts, minds and souls of our people. I have been lucky enough to receive the support from numerous grassroots activists but this race is not about endorsements, but rather what YOU WANT THE PARTY TO BE. It’s about change, the everyday person, it’s about uniting urban and rural Texas, winning elections and most importantly it’s about giving the Party back to the People.

A Republican can not win the Presidency without carrying Texas. So goes Texas, so goes the Presidency and so goes the public policy of our nation. While our Republican administration is talking about “immigration” reform they seem to have forgotten about more pressing matters such as education, healthcare, foreign policy and our economy. The opportunity for the Democratic Party to take the lead on the real issues that affect our everyday lives, and for the TDP to educate Texans on the positive alternatives our leaders offer, is now!

Our “NEW BEGINNING” starts with one person which grows to a precinct, a county and eventually spreads through the entire state. Who we elect for TDP Chair determines how this process is implemented. I believe that our Party should be run from the bottom up, not the top down; providing the necessary resources and support structure to all precinct chairs through our county chairs.

With new leadership our Democratic Party will return to its roots as the Party of the People, not the chosen few.

In the spirit of Justice, Equality & Freedom,

Charlie Urbina-Jones

Candidate for Texas Democratic Party Chair

Good message from Charlie Urbina-Jones (0.00 / 0)
I like the Ghandi like message. Be the party you want to see.  We all have a role in making sure the party grows everywhere and that every person living on any block, any Pct chair or any candidate for any office who is a Democrat in Texas, has the power to make us stronger.  Let's give them support, training, tools and show them how to raise money if they need it.

Charlie is a good man.

I'm headed out (0.00 / 0)
I've got classes for a bit this morning, then I'll be headed up to Fort Worth around 1. See y'all there.

No endorsements? (0.00 / 0)
While I am not a party insider, and in the latter process of dissolving any partisan ties to any political party, I would think endorsements would be valuable for any candidate, given that among some endorsements, highly respected people and in some cases, giants and legends can carry alot of weight behind the worthiness of the candidate (as for the worthiness, the candidates supporters can decide that for themselves). And especially if an unlikely supporter throws their endorsement into the ring, that candidate would want to seize it with the same demeanor that Robin Williams would shout "Carpe Diem" in the Dead Poets Society Movie.

I know that if I were a candidate for Lt. Gov. on the Republican ticket and I won John Sharp's endorsement or a candidate on the Democratic ticket and won Bill Ratliff's endorsement, I'd want to put that endorsement in big, bold letters to show that I reach across a broad spectrum of ideological fields.

So what's so bad about sporting that list of endorsements? I'd encourage ALL candidates, including Charlie Urbina-Jones to run that list and run it with pride!
