We rate Perry's sweeping statement based on an unreasonable manipulation of crime statistics -- the second instance of his administration touting questionable border crime numbers -- as Pants on Fire.
As most of you are aware, there is very serious violence along the border. But Perry isn't acting seriously on the issue -- taking the opportunity to grandstand against Washington and make obviously false lies about the border crime rates to make his "tough man" image look good, the truth be damned.
Unfortunately, not a single story from any of the news coverage takes on Perry for his lie:
It will be up to Democrats to keep pressure on Perry and not let get away with blatant "pants on fire" lies just so he can act tough on crime. It is clear that -- except for the Austin American-Statesman's excellent PolitiFact coverage -- the traditional reporters are going to ignroe it.
