Republicans Stand for More Than what Rick Perry Offers

by: Token Republican

Tue Mar 02, 2010 at 11:38 AM CST

It's sad but true that Rick Perry has lingered in the Governor's seat for more than any other human being in the history of Texas, and we have very little to show for it.

Perry has never been about what is best for Texas, and he's always been about what is best for Perry's cronies.

Texas A & M University President Ray Bowen and Texas Tech's Windy Sitton both give witness that Perry has improperly demanded that folks he appoints pledge their loyalty to him above the people of Texas and above the Universities they were appointed to serve.

For example, Rick Francis, a banker from El Paso banker gave Perry more than $180,000, including a $25,000 donation six days before his appointment to the Texas Tech University Board of Regents. These corrupt quid-pro-quo government appointments for sale must stop.

Lobbyist Dan Shelley worked to give away Texas land plus $7 billion dollars to Cintra, a Spanish company, to build the Trans-Texas Corridor boondoggle toll road before lobbyist Shelly came to work in Perry's office.

Debra Medina is a breath of fresh air with new ideas.

Where do you go tomorrow (0.00 / 0)
or maybe in six weeks, when Medina (most likely) gets beat by the GOP establishment candidates? Will you 'come home' to the Republicans or are you looking at the Libertarians or another option?

Tomorrow, I hope to be helping Debra Medina defeat Rick Perry in (0.00 / 0)
the runoff.

There can be little doubt that Rick Perry will not win the nomination outright today, and there can be equally little doubt that he will be the frontrunner in that runoff.

Kay Hutchison appeals largely to the same base as Perry, and Debra Medina appeals to a different, more energized base.

I think the outcome of today's race is probably forseeable, but it is not definitely set in stone.  I believe that there is some chance (a possibility more than a probability) that Debra Medina will squeak past Kay Hutchison to take the last position in the runoff.

My plans for tomorrow remain contingent on the voters of Texas.

Let me rephrase (0.00 / 0)
Once the votes from the RUNOFF are all counted, and IF your candidate doesn't prevail, what do you do think you will do then?

As for tonight, I think your candidate has a shot at living to fight another round, if only because of the increase in first time primary voters. I think a lot of Dems are crossing over for KBH, which may be enough to prevent Medina from pulling off the shocker, but we'll know soon enough. I'm just hoping Perry repeats at 39% and I never again have to hear the McLaughlin Group referring to him as a 'popular and successful' governor when discussing 2012 presidential candidates.

I will cross that bridge if and when the time comes. You can bet I (0.00 / 0)
will be supporting Debra Medina if that is an option, and you can also bet that I will not be supporting Rick Perry under any circumstances.  Beyond that, the future remains unwritten.

Fair enough (0.00 / 0)
Keep us posted. Good to hear from a Republican that doesn't just repeat talking points.
