Who’s in, who’s out, and who’s rumored to run
The 2014 Austin City Council elections will be a watershed moment in the history of our municipal government. Austin will elect representatives from 10 geographic districts, as opposed to 6 at-large council members. Additionally, there will be an open-seat race for mayor.
The elections are also shifting from a Saturday in mid-May to the November general elections in even-numbered years. As a result, turnout will increase by a potential 300% city-wide. Read more about the anticipated effects of these changes here.
In the meantime, there has been no shortage of candidates tossing their hat into the ring. Burnt Orange Report has compiled all of the names mentioned in news articles, as well as candidates with social media pages announcing their campaigns.
