March 18, 2005Minutes of the 2/28/05 Dallas Co. Executive Committee MeetingBy Byron LaMastersThe Secretary of the Dallas County Democratic Party, David Wilkins, has submitted the minutes of the February 28, 2005 Dallas County Democratic Executive Committee meeting. You may view them in PDF format here. Also attached in the file are the two resolutions approved by the committee at their 2/28 meeting. I have read the minutes, and as someone who attended the meeting, it is my opinion that they accurately reflect the events of the meeting. If you read these minutes you'll note that Susan Hays did her best to destroy her relationship with her executive body. It is unbelievable that a party chair would work to obstruct a conversation with the direction of the party. Susan Hays should resign for her own reputation she is destroying herself and everything around her. Posted by: Another Longtime Democrat at March 18, 2005 04:30 PMHmmm...I'm shocked! David Wilkins wrote a self-serving version of the events, not bothering to mention how, in an apoplectic state, he grabbed the microphone from the podium with Susan Hays standing at the podium, and then attempted to appoint himself the chair of the meeting. Now isn't that special? Gee, I wonder why that's not in the minutes, nor is the fact that Katy Hubener (not a member of the Executive Committee) threw an absolute temper tantrum, which was the straw that broke the camel's back, leading to the meeting being declared adjourned? Why won't David Wilkins share the tape of the meeting with anyone outside of the insurgents, including the press? Could it be . . . (((Satan!)))? The cannibalistic b.s. continues. Our party is doomed if this crap keeps up. The insurgents are delusional if they think they will be able to pull things back together in time to maximize our potential in 2006. If they think there is going to be any mountain left for us to stand on top of after they've pulled the party apart, I've got an old bridge in NYC for sale. Posted by: Longtime Democrat at March 18, 2005 11:03 PMSally Garcia (Longtime Democrat) did you really just call David Wilkins Satan? The best thing that Susan could do is resign. Posted by: Another Longtime Democrat at March 19, 2005 09:08 AMDon't be silly. It was a joke alluding to Dana Carvey's "Church Lady" character from the "Church Chat" Saturday Night Live skits from years ago, in which "Could it be . .. Satan" (delivered with special effects and a resounding echo) was usually the tongue-in-cheek rhetorical punch line for who was responsible for the behavior of the person the Church Lady was talking about. By the way, "Another Longtime Democrat", I'm not Sally Garcia. Are you the wannabe godfather, (3 guesses who that is) who probably strong-armed the union head to put out the letter denying what happened with the phone call asking people to leave the union hall? (The "godfather" likely took the opportunity to not only use his position but also take advantage by playing off the current union head's dislike for his old rival Gene Freeland). It will be interesting, but sad for the DCDP and Democrats as a whole, to see the "Lord of the Flies" behavior when the insurgents turn on themselves whenever Susan's chairmanship ends, and the infighting continues with the power struggle over who will replace her. Apparently the insurgents just don't care that there could have been a less public, less destructive, but more effective push for changes. But then to some of these people, creating drama for the sport of it is more important than the longterm health and effectiveness of the party. The best thing the insurgents could do is get a life so they're not so bored that they resort to party-destroying forms of entertainment. Maybe then their personal agendas would have a more productive focus.
