Strayhorn Courts Teachers
By Byron LaMasters
I'm all for paying teachers more. But how many of them vote in Texas Republican primaries?

Presumeably she believes that her campaign will continue after the primaries too.
My dad, being a teacher, was very excited about this as well. But at the same time, it's not really anything that has to do with Strayhorn's current job, though she ran on education in her last election. Yeah, it's pandering, but at least it isn't to the usualy right wing crowd.
How many teachers vote in the Republican primary?
My mother, for one. My father, for two. Most of the teachers in my old high school for three through 100. Most teachers ... you get the picture.
So Strayhorn is trying to make it a Texas-style cage match for the GOP ticket between her, Hutchison and Gov. Goodhair. I imagine that any support that Strayhorn gets will come from the Hutchison side while Perry has a solid base of Texas Republicans and plenty of money from GOP donors to spend in the primaries. Strayhorn and Hutchison split the not-Perry vote and Perry gets a plurality.
What I've not heard is who might be the Dems pick. Chris Bell has all but announced his candidacy, but who else. If Ron Kirk or Martin Frost don't get the DNC gig, would one or both run for governor?
