When analyzing constitutional jurisprudence over the last 15 years, I have long joked, toungue and cheek, that we have three Constitutions: one for drug cases, one for gays, and one for everything else. (Guess which two afford WAY LESS protections to our fellow citizens).

Since Texas prides itself on being the Aberrant State, I'm compelled to air a notion that would apply ONLY to the Union's second largest state.
It's would be a constitutional amendment (federal, that is) somewhat like the one being touted by a famous Texas who now lives in Washington, D.C. I hear he likes constitutional amendments.

My amendment would go something like this: No person who has served in elected office for the State of Texas has the right to run for the office of the President of the United States of America.

Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? And it's just about as fair as that one all the papers are talking about now being suggested by one of the Lone Star State's favorite sons who was born back East.

And hey, it could be tacked on to the Immigrant's Presidential Amendment being brought forth soon by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I really think people should think about what these constitutional amendments might do. Don't

LOL! But you've left Texas pols a loophole. They could still run for VP and become President if the elected President died or resigned.

Side note to WhoMe: Vivaldi's amendment would let ordinary Texans run for President. But perhaps we should also add "as a Republican" to the wording.

not only are we all not a bunch of freakin idiots, many of us are of the opinion that a New Haven, CT-born scion of a family of elite northeastern corporate millionaires, who has spent far more of his life outside of Texas than inside, is hardly a Texan.

W appropriated his "statehood" for political gain. He's no more a real Texan than I am a straight woman. As much as the Hate Amendment and the return of a theocracy enrage me, as a fifth generation Texan, the first item on my personal W shitlist is him pretending to be a real cowboy.

Let's also include the founding principle of this country in our discussion:

"WE hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness"

Self-evident truths are under attack in this country.

While George W. Bush may be from Texas, he is most certainly NOT Texan!

He is nothing more than a smirking simian charicature of some of the more outrageous qualities of Texas.

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot...HE'S A FREAKING CARPETBAGGER!!

I'd like to offer an amendment to:

"WE hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness"

Such that it reads:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that only White, Heterosexual Men, contributing in an amount of $1,000 or above to the campaign of Bush-Cheney 2004, Inc, are created equal to the recipients thereof. These men are well endowed with certain rights, reserved specifically for them, and that among those rights are a Life of Luxury, Liberty beyond that of lower classes, and the Happiness of the Pursuit of Power.

I'm a native born Texan, a real VietNam veteran (not the bush kind), and an American citizen. I'd like to commend you all on your informative weblog. It's good to see so many of our youths here who aren't fooled by the right wing rhetoric.

WhoMe, a cybername I love, has cautioned this old Baroque composer that not all who reside in Texas are (did he say?) nuts. He quickly reminded me of a Texas president of a somewhat different stripe: LBJ.

Yes, the Baines Man had some qualities that puts him a lightyear or two ahead of The Shrub, but when I made up my little No Texas Politician as President Amendment, I was ruminating on Kevin Phillips' new book about the Bush Dynasty.

Part of Mr. Phillips book reminds us that our dear nation was taken into its last three major conflicts by three gentlemen who were proud to say they were from the Lone Star State: LBJ...GHWB...and, of course, GWB. Those conflicts would be, if you don't remember, Viet Nam...Iraq One...and Iraq Two. Ouch!

Maybe we could dispense with my amendment proposal and just persuade Texas to seceed and go back to being a republic by itself, sort of like lots of folks from there seem to collectively think it is, anyway.

But, I suppose we'd have to worry about
whoever became the Chancellor of Texas starting a pre-emptive invasion of Oklahoma or other parts of the United States of America.

I can just hear Wolf Blitzer now, shouting into the camera that "the crack Texas Republican Guard has pushed past Ardmore and is expected to be encamped near Norman by nightfall."
