Home State Advantage
By Jim Dallas
Whereas, Michael Badnarik is a homeboy, basing his presidential campaign in Buda;
Whereas, Badnarik has shown personal bravery in the face of California's push towards insanity. In his own words, he "quickly fled that socialist wasteland to come to Texas, where 'gun control' means being able to hit your target."
Whereas, Badnarik might be nuts, but at least he won't take our guns away;
Be it Resolved that Jim feels that the Burnt Orange Report should endorse Michael Badnarik of Austin, Texas for the Libertarian Party's 2004 presidential nomination.

Okay, so there is a link on that guy's main page to this group that puts out private money. Like, they say "look at FedEx, it made the postal service better by competing with it so let's have our own money and make money better." That might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why not set up your own criminal justice system in order to make the current one better? We'll have our own judges and prosecutors and juries and prisons and cops and everything. Makes about as much sense
Still, his page is really professional looking and it appears that it takes little to nothing to win that party's nomination as he is the frontrunner and he's a computer programmer from fucking Buda. Jeez I wish I was 35 I'd so be running for President...
I have little knowledge of Libertarian Party Politics so I will refrain from supporting such a resolution at this time. :)
Just a reminder that no non-Democrat nor non-Republican has been president since Millard Filmore left office on March 4, 1853.
Can anybody think of a more grandiose act of political futility than a minor party candidate seriously seeking the presidency?
Few really try to win the White House- it is a good way to draw attention to your cause(s) or to affect change in the larger parties and running for President brings much needed publicity, ballot access and money for other races for your party. Essentially the LP has hundreds of local officials elected, mostly in non-partisan races, and they also get about 1% of the vote in major elections such as President. I'm interested to see if the Free State Project (a movement to get 20,000 hard core LP activists to move to New Hampshire and to take that state's politics over) has any success. A similar, though much less coordinated, effort led to the left-lean in Vermont that led to the election of Bernie Sanders and the like.
Woah- the other leading candidate for the LP nom is Gary Nolan whose site has a blog. I think we might have to endorse him...
Michael Badnarik also has a blog, at

He actually lives in Austin -- only his campaign treasurer is from Buda.
I've met him, and he is very sincere, dedicated, and enthusiastic about liberty. He teaches a class on the Constitution, and has just released a book on it, "It's Good to be King."
Americans love to complain about government but MOST do next to nothing to affect real change on it. I've got a very, very cheap and educational proposition. Go to www.constitutionpreservation.org and order the electronic version of Badnarik's book for only $4 and change. I guarantee you will learn something new and you'll be putting $4 to a good cause - gas in the car to help him spread liberty's message across America. I also guarantee that he is probably the hardest or second hardest working third party contender out there this year. Check out the calendar at www.badnarik.org.
